Discuss
your feelings about the post-production and editing task:
·
Are you satisfied
with the final result?
Yes, I am
satisfied with the final results.
·
Did the
editing require more/less time than you originally thought?
The
editing didn’t need more time, although the filming did, as I realized I didn’t
have enough footage to keep in the time limit required.
·
Would
you like to change any aspects of your final film (scene editing, music, dialogue
etc)?
I would
have liked to of had more scenes in the film to make it longer and more in
depth. I would have also liked to have done more unique editing techniques with
my film and made it a little more complicated and different to other peoples.
·
If you
could start the project again what would you do differently?
I would write more scenes and shots for
the film and try to film as many things as possible.
Respond to each of the following dot
points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You should include as much
detail as possible in your responses.
·
Discuss
whether your film has turned out the way you pictured it?
In a way it did, but my idea was very
simple and that’s how it turned out, but after looking at other peoples and
seeing there I would have liked to have made it more complicated and unique
than it was. But overall, it did turn out the way I imagined it.
·
Describe
whether your film clearly depicts the intended genre and describe some specific
editing techniques you have used to achieve this;
The film does some what depict the Film
Noir genre but it could have been clearer in some parts. Some methods I used
were making the film darker with less saturation and using flashbacks. I hade
he detectives office scenes darker than the flashback scenes to show a contrast
between the two and to see which one is happening at this moment in time and
which ones happened before.
·
Did you
have all of the necessary shots to complete your film?
No, I don’t believe it did.
·
Would
additional footage or reshooting some scenes have helped during the editing
process?
Having additional footage and
reshooting scenes would have helped greatly during the editing process, as I
wouldn’t of had trouble finding footage to use while also making sure he film
made sense. I also would have been able to maybe have better shadowing and
darkness in the detective scenes and clear some of the blurriness out of some of
the shots that we accidently filmed wrong.
·
Describe
whether your group worked effectively or whether most of the work was left to
one or two people;
Even though we didn’t film enough
footage during our group work time, we still worked together efficiently and
had no fights. We all had a certain job and did them to our best ability and we
all contributed to new ideas.
·
Explain
whether you used Final Cut Pro to effectively
organise your project (through the use of appropriate clip names, bins,
sequences) and what you could improve for future projects;
I used correctly named bins and
sequances in Final Cut Pro but didn’t name the clip names correctly. This could
have been fixed, making it much easier to find the right shot order and would have saved a lot of time finding the
shot I wanted to use.
·
Describe
any problems or difficulties you encountered during post-production and editing.
These may include; technical difficulties, corrupt or missing files, difficulty
using the editing software, problems exporting sound or video etc;
Our group had extreme problems finding
time to re-shoot shots as all of us could not be there and the group members
house that we filmed the flashback in was being sold. All of this made it very
difficult to film additional footage and therefore, the film was too short.
Although, the editing process actually went very smoothly and nothing really
went wrong during it.
·
Clarify
how you made use of storyboards, shot-lists and the rough-edit during the
editing process;
If I was trying to explain a certain
shot I had an idea for and they could not picture in there head what I was
trying to describe, the storyboards came in handy as I could show my group
members roughly what I was thinking through pictures. The shot list also helped
us greatly during filming as we could read what type of shot was needed and
film it straight away. We would also be able to know roughly what the dialogue
would be for each scene as we wrote it on there. The rough edit let us know
what we needed to reshoot and helped generate ideas for editing techniques through
class discussion.
·
Discuss
whether you made effective use of the EDL and Sound Design templates to support
the editing and decision making process;
I didn’t really effectively use the EDL
and Sound Design templates as I wrote them after I had finished both editing
the film and making the sound track.
·
Clarify
any time-management issues you or your group encountered during the editing
process and describe the steps you took to improve in this area;
We didn’t really have that much time to
do the rough edit. We quickly finished it during a lunch time before quickly
putting it on the hard drive, resulting in many stupid mistakes and not a very
good edit. However, I can personally say that I managed my time great and got
the final edit done very quickly and (besides a few length problems) am happy
with the final result.
·
Discuss whether
you undertook adequate and detailed reflection to throughout your project. Have
you provided enough evidence to support your work? (Look back at your blogs/journals
and think about whether it looks like a whole terms worth of work);
Unfortunately when I look back at my
blog for this term, I don’t think I have done a sufficient amount of reflections
compared to the amount of work I did. For some reason, blogs have been a
continuous struggle for me to update. Next term, I have to really work on
starting to remember to update reflections weekly.
