Evaluation

I didn't have that many difficulties with making my avatars. Some that I definitely remember are having trouble with learning which keys on the key board meant what. I never use short cuts on the key board (not even to copy or paste) so it was hard getting used to it at first, but I eventually got their. Another problem I had were having the knowledge of the photoshop tools. I think I still can't name all of them. For some reason I just can't remember.

I didn't plan or organise anything, which was actually easier in my case. I tried to plan my avatars first before actually starting photoshop, but I couldn't think of anything. What I did plan on having was my friend Ilona being my model for my avatar photos, and having my first avatar have blue hair and green eyes, but thats all I really decided on. When I started actually making my avatar, more ideas just came to me. That was the same with my second avatar except I had no idea what to do for it.

I started the profile sheet for the first avatar before actually starting to make it. But after I had started to make my avatar it eventually changed entirely. So I had to go back and basically write the whole thing again. So, for my second avatar, I started my making it in photoshop and then completing the profile sheet based on the avatar I had just made. So therefore, the profile template didn't really help me with making my avatar.

I had a lot of time management issues throughout the term when it comes to my blog. Some of the issues I had were not being able to download images from my home laptop for most of the term, so I had to take what ever chance I got to update my blog during school time lessons. But that made me far behind in my avatars. I had to take a laptop home a lot so update my blog so I could do my avatar at school.

To be honest, I don't think I put enough work into my reflections. Firstly, I don't think I made enough to accurately portray a whole terms worth of work. And secondly, I don't think all of then are long enough. Some of them I think are long enough but some are obviously not long enough. I think that some of the later entries sometimes provide evidence of how I went about making my avatar but the earlier ones don't show that much information on what I actually did each day when making my avatar, and all the steps I made.

Some skills, techniques or tricks I have discovered during the project are:

  • That to make someones face clear and scarless, you can use the healing tool and take one part of the skin that is clear and put it in place with the part that is scared.
  • Making eyeliner and eyelashes with the curving path tool.
  • Putting clothes on someone by taking the picture of the clothing, sticking it onto the picture of the person accurately, and painting the extra parts out.
  • Changing the colour of someones eyes by getting a colour texture and doing sort of the same steps to put clothes on someone.
I am very pleased with my final avatars. Although, some aspects that I would have liked to have changed is that the background on my first avatar hasn't really been blended properly. After I put all of the pictures together and had a go at blending it together, I thought that it was alright. But after I posted it on blogger, I saw that it wasn't blended properly. I also thought I should have done more on my background for my second avatar. If I could of started the project again, I would have put more effort in my blogs from the start of the term. I would have also brought the laptops home more often so I wouldn't be behind in my blogs later in the term. I defiantly think that I have progressed with my photoshop skills. In the beginning of the term I was having some trouble as I have never been that good with computers in the first place. A lot of my friends have asked me why I took up Creative Media as I am terrible with computers, but I love doing this kind of stuff and I want to learn more. But as the term has progressed and I learnt more, I think computers have hated me less since.
